After what can be described as a long period of successful pastoral ministry at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), God’s servant, Pastor Taiwo Kolawole, the lead Pastor of City of Christ, received an instruction to step out of RCCG and reach out to people through a new ministry. The idea of starting a new ministry did not resonate with him at all. According to him, starting another ministry was never “his thing”. Moreover, he was doing fantastically well as a pastor in RCCG, and impacting lives with proofs that cannot be denied. Hence, he struggled with this divine call and hesitated for quite a while. He decided to heed this call after God confirmed the call through several channels and vessels.
Eventually, in line with this call, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, he started a breakfast prayer meeting in his living room with three other attendants. The prayer fellowship continued at this same location for a few weeks before it was moved to a relatively bigger space at the ROA hospital in Arepo, Ogun State. It continued moving from one location to another within Arepo with an evident increase in attendance and a record number of testimonies of miraculous divine interventions and answers to prayers.
After seeking the face of God in prayer, the name “Christ Intervention Christian Centre” emerged as the name of the umbrella ministry, and “City of Christ” as the name of the Church. The name was subsequently registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. The ministry commenced Sunday church services on the day of its inauguration – Sunday, September 25, 2016. The church has recorded tremendous growth to date.
